at Rounic's Mill, a refugee camp for about 7,000 persons who are chiefly former Nationalist soldiers and who have sought refuge in the Colony. Those people were squatting on various sites on the Island and it was necessary to remove them to a now site on the mainland in the interests of public health. The annual cost of running this camp is estimated at $2,380,000. Provision for this amount is included under Special Expendituro. But for this item, expenditure in 1951/52 would be less than in the previous year but the actual increase is $2,379,590.

It has become possible to abolish six more posts in the District Watch Force and consequently personal emoluments show a reduction of $7,030.

Economics are made in recurrent expenditure but these are partly off-set by an extra $700 required for arms and ammunition for training members of the Force. The net reduction is $2,000.

Total expenditure on the Head is less by $9,030.

The regrading of three officers and the abolition

of one post under temporary staff, together with the absence of any changes in the main establishment of this department result in a saving of 5,063 in personal emoluments.

A small saving of 559 is made in recurrent

expenditure.

The total reduction under this Head is 5,622.

Considerable reductions in tomporary staff have been

possible with the completion of the major part of the registration schomo. Consequently personal emoluments show a reduction of $50,077. Similar savings are possible in recurrent expenditure which is $87,100 less then in the previous year.

Expenditure of this department in 1951/52 is $160,383 compared with $297,560 in 1950/51.
